Waarmee beklee jy jouself?

(Kolossense 3:12-17).

AMEN!

Abide in my love

As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. (John 15:9, 10 ESV)

Recognise the work of the enemy

Good morning, Lovers of God!

I want us to focus on recognition. Our daily living is plagued by the lies of satan and the only way to stop this infiltration is to know and recognise it when it approaches… Thus, we need to recognise the works of the enemy in our lives. In order to this, we should differentiate between God’s works, our works and satan’s works…

Cursed are those who get up early in the morning to give themselves up to strong drink; who keep on drinking far into the night till they are heated with wine! And corded instruments and wind-instruments and wine are in their feasts: but they give no thought to the work of the Lord, and they are not interested in what his hands are doing. For this cause my people are taken away as prisoners into strange countries for need of knowledge: and their rulers are wasted for need of food, and their loud-voiced feasters are dry for need of water. For this cause the underworld has made wide its throat, opening its mouth without limit: and her glory, and the noise of her masses, and her loud-voiced feasters, will go down into it.
(Isaiah 5:11-14 BBE).

Our works as in this passage is to make strong drink (alcohol) our lord. We are then not concious of God’s works allowing the enemy to enter into our lives AND his works will always lead to destruction as Jesus said:

The thief comes only to take the sheep and to put them to death: he comes for their destruction…
(John 10:10 BBE).

There is always a consequence, a cause, an effect in every action we take, good or bad… The enemy (satan) will always try to hide this from us, because if we know and understand the consequence(s) of our actions, we will not do it. We will be targeted by satan through thoughts, pictures, ideas and other lies in-order to separate our works from God’s works. Thus as Christians we are walking in God’s works and satan will do everything is his power to keep us from doing so.

For we are His (God’s) workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
(Ephesians 2:10 NKJV).

We need to listen to the voice of God and not the voice of the enemy. Therefore we need discernment!!!

But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
(Hebrews 5:14 NKJV).

We need to have our “senses exercised to discern both good and evil”… Our measuring rod (tool) is LOVE… What is not Love is not the works of God! Our works needs to be the works of God as Jesus said:

… “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.
(John 5:19 NKJV).

It is then Love we need to know and measure everything we do against. Paul gives us an idea of what Love is and what actions Love takes:

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails…
(1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NKJV).

For Love not to fail is to keep God’s commandments and Jesus explained it like this:

If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.
(John 15:10-14 NKJV).

Love then is the source, the measuring rod and the fullness of God’s commandments. Our love should be to lay down our lives for our friends like Jesus did when he proved His love and died on the cross…

Hold fast to this promise:

And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations—
(Revelation 2:26 NKJV).

Blessings,
Thomas

Why, or why not

We usually ask questions when ever things happen…

    Why me?
    OR
    Why not me?

This is where the problem starts, because life is not about “Why” or “Why not”, it is about “MERCY AND GRACE”…

With “Why” or “Why not” the focus of life is “ME”! The truth is that life does not centre around me, but Jesus Christ.

We should strive to be able to truly say “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing…“, in every situation where we are treated unfairly or unjustly. The fact is that we are not able to do so without Jesus, thus we need to keep our eyes focused on Him who died on the Cross for us, that we may receive mercy and grace daily.

No, this is not a cop out… we do need mercy and grace daily, but we should also give mercy and grace daily, FOR FREE!!!!

Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
(Hebrews 4:16)

I do not think that we are “allowed” only to come to the throne when we need mercy and grace, but when we are suppose to have mercy and grace to give to others also – even to those who betrayed and hurt us…

True freedom is when you know exactly where your boundaries are, and “MERCY AND GRACE” are two of our boundaries. Our boundaries is Christ! His death on the Cross is “MERCY AND GRACE”.

Jesus Said:

“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you.
(John 15:12-14)

Then He stretched out His hands on the cross and died for His friends…

Jesus also commanded us to love one another – Love without mercy and grace is not true love!

Jesus we need you, daily! We need your mercy and grace daily and we also need You to help us give mercy and grace daily. Come Lord Jesus come, teach us Your ways!!!

Wonderful New Beginnings

Hi all, our prayer is that we’ll remember that:

He saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.
(Titus 3:5)

May you experience wonderful new beginnings in Him this year!

Love Tom and Sarah

Kies lewe!

Moenie bang wees nie en moenie twyfel nie…
Ek het die lewe en die dood, die seën en die vloek julle voorgehou, Kies dan die LEWE!
(Deuteronomium 30: 19-20).

Love is…

Love is not there to fill us, but love is to form us. God is love and therefore when we receive His love we are becoming more like Him. We can only receive love if we accept the love of Christ and in that we are formed into God’s image and likeness.

…I also pray that love may be the ground into which you sink your roots and on which you have your foundation. This way, with all of God’s people you will be able to understand how wide, long, high, and deep his love is and to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fullness of God.
(Ephesians 3:17-19).

In the same light, God knows us by our love in Him. (Like Kelley Varner says, "God is out looking for God")

I know your works and love and service and faith and your patience, and your works; and the last to be more than the first.
(Revelations 2:19).

But concerning the sacrifices to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies.
(1Co 8:1).

Everyone will know that you are my disciples because of your love for each other.
(John 13:35).

May we learn to give love God’s way and to receive God’s love His way and move away from our worldly mindsets of wanting love for ourselves, just for gratification – We are not in this world to make people "feel" better or to "please" people or to keep anyone "happy". We are here to give "true" and "pure" love from the Father, a love that will bring people into relationship with the father, a love that will edify and strengthen His body. This love is not the "nice guy love" that we know so well, but it is a love that brings truth and correction, brings justice but also gives mercy.

Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves another has fulfilled the Law
(Romans 13:8).

Intolerance and Irritation…

We all are intolerant towards things that irritates us. Everything should be just the way we want it and nothing is allowed to disturb or disrupt our peace of perfection we have just perfected for ourselves…

If we allow this intolerance to continue in our lives we become the victims there of. Our own lives is disrupted minute after minute, day after day and we suffer the irritation, pain and hate of our own doing.

Here is an abstract from Spiritual Letters by Fenelon:

LETTER XXI.
The imperfection of others to be borne in love.

It is a long while since I renewed the assurance of my attachment to you in our Lord. It is, nevertheless, greater than ever. I desire with all my heart that you may always find in your household the peace and consolation which you enjoyed in the beginning. To be content with even the best of people, we must be contented with little and bear a great deal. Those who are most perfect, have many imperfections, and we have great faults, so that between the two, mutual toleration becomes very difficult. We must bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ, (Gal. vi. 2,) thus setting off one against the other in love. Peace and unanimity will be much aided by frequent silence, habitual recollection, prayer, self-abandonment, renunciation of all vain criticisms, and a faithful departure from the vain reflections of a jealous and difficult self-love. To how much trouble would this simplicity put an end! Happy he who neither listens to self nor to the tales of others!

Be content with leading a simple life, according to your condition. Be obedient, and bear your daily cross; you need it, and it is bestowed by the pure mercy of God. The grand point is to despise self from the heart, and to be willing to be despised, if God permits it. Feed upon Him alone; St. Augustine says that his mother lived upon prayer; do you do so likewise, and die to everything else. We can only live to God by the continual death of self.
by Fenelon

This so true! Our lives is not suppose to be without weakness, but we should learn to embrace even our weaknesses so that we may know ourselves, embracing our humanity with the full knowledge of our utter dependence on God.

LETTER XXIV.
Imperfection only is intolerant of imperfection.

It has seemed to me that you have need of more enlargedness of heart in relation to the defects of others. I know that you cannot help seeing them when they come before you, nor prevent the opinions you involuntarily form concerning the motives of some of those about you. You cannot even get rid of a certain degree of trouble which these things cause you. It will be enough if you are willing to bear with those defects which are unmistakable, refrain from condemning those which are doubtful, and not suffer yourself to be so afflicted by them as to cause a coolness of feeling between you.

Perfection is easily tolerant of the imperfections of others; it becomes all things to all men. We must not be surprised at the greatest defects in good souls, and must quietly let them alone until God gives the signal of gradual removal; otherwise we shall pull up the wheat with the tares. God leaves, in the most advanced souls, certain weaknesses entirely disproportioned to their eminent state. As workmen, in excavating the soil from a field, leave certain pillars of earth which indicate the original level of the surface, and serve to measure the amount of material removed—God, in the same way, leaves pillars of testimony to the extent of his work in the most pious souls.

Such persons must labor, each one in his degree, for his own correction, and you must labor to bear with their weaknesses. You know from experience the bitterness of the work of correction; strive then to find means to make it less bitter to others. You have not an eager zeal to correct, but a sensitiveness that easily shuts up your heart.

I pray you more than ever not to spare my faults. If you should think you see one, which is not really there, there is no harm done; if I find that your counsel wounds me, my sensitiveness demonstrates that you have discovered a sore spot; but if not, you will have done me an excellent kindness in exercising my humility, and accustoming me to reproof. I ought to be more lowly than others in proportion as I am higher in position, and God demands of me a more absolute death to everything. I need this simplicity, and I trust it will be the means of cementing rather than of weakening our attachment.
by Fenelon

May we work and press into the truth of this all discovering who we were created to be…

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? "My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives."
(Hebrews 12:1-6).

Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith– that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.
(Philippians 3:8-12).

Love,
Thomas Dreyer
