Wat gebeur met die varkgriep

Influensavirus wat aan die familie Orthomyxoviridae behoort.

AARD VAN DIE SIEKTE
‘N Akute respiratoriese infeksie van wisselende erns, wat wissel van asimptomatiese infeksie tot ernstige siekte. Tipiese griep simptome sluit in koors met skielike aanval, kouekoors, seer keel, nie-produktiewe hoes en, dikwels vergesel van hoofpyn, siekte, myalgie en prostrasie. Komplikasies van griepvirale infeksie sluit in: primêre griepvirale pneumonitis, bakteriële longontsteking, otitis media en verergering van onderliggende chroniese toestande. Siekte is geneig om die ergste te wees by bejaardes, by babas en jong kinders, en by immuungekompromitteerde leërskare. Die dood as gevolg van seisoenale griep kom hoofsaaklik voor by bejaardes en individue met voorafgaande chroniese siektes. Influenza A (H1N1) is soortgelyk aan seisoenale griep, maar is gekenmerk deur hoër aktiwiteit gedurende die noordelike somer seisoen, hoër sterftesyfer onder gesonde jong volwassenes en hoër voorkoms van virale longontsteking.

WAAR KOM VARKGRIEP VANDAAN
Die griepvirusse word in tipes A, B en C geklassifiseer op grond van hul kernproteïene. Slegs tipes A en B veroorsaak menslike siekte van enige besorgdheid. Die subtipes van griep A virusse word bepaal deur koevertglikoproteïene wat haemagglutinien (HA) of neuraminidase (NA) aktiwiteit besit. Hoë mutasietariewe en gereelde genetiese herversamelings van hierdie virusse dra by tot die groot veranderlikheid van die HA en NA-antigene. Al die nuwe geïdentifiseerde 16 HA en 9 NA subtipes van influensa A virusse word in wilde, akwatiese voëlbevolkings gehandhaaf. Mense word oor die algemeen besmet deur virusse van die subtipes H1, H2 of H3, en N1 of N2. Minipuntmutasies wat klein veranderinge veroorsaak (“antigeenwrywing”) kom relatief dikwels voor. Antigeniese drywing stel die virus in staat om immuunherkenning te ontduik, wat lei tot herhalende griep-uitbrake gedurende interpandemiese jare. Groot veranderinge in die HA-antigeen (“antigeenverskuiwing”) word veroorsaak deur herassortasie van genetiese materiaal uit verskillende A-subtipes. Antigeniese verskuiwings wat nuwe pandemiese stamme tot gevolg het, is skaars gebeurtenisse, wat plaasvind deur herassortasie tussen dierlike en menslike subtipes, byvoorbeeld by mede-besmette varke. Influenza A (H1N1) virus het in 2009 ontstaan. Dit is ‘n nuwe herassortiment wat nog nooit voorheen onder mense versprei is nie. Hierdie virus is nie nou verwant aan vorige of huidige menslike seisoenale griepvirusse nie.

OORDRAG EN VERSPREIDING
Respiratoriese oordrag vind hoofsaaklik plaas deur druppels versprei deur onbeskermde hoes en nies. Kort afstand lugoorsending van griepvirusse kan voorkom, veral in oorvol afgeslote ruimtes. Handbesmetting en direkte inenting van virus is nog ‘n moontlike bron van transmissie.

SIEKTE KLASIFIKASIE
Influenza kom oor die hele wêreld voor, met ‘n jaarlikse globale aanvalkoers van 5-10% by volwassenes en 20-30% by kinders. In gematigde streke is griep ‘n seisoenale siekte wat gewoonlik in die wintermaande voorkom: dit beïnvloed die noordelike halfrond vanaf November tot April en die suidelike halfrond vanaf April tot September. In tropiese gebiede is daar geen duidelike seisoenale patroon nie, en griep sirkulasie is die hele jaar deur, tipies met verskeie pieke gedurende reënseisoene.

RISIKO VIR REISIGERS
Reisigers, soos plaaslike inwoners, is in gevaar in enige land gedurende die griepseisoen. Daarbenewens kan groepe van reisigers wat individue insluit vanaf gebiede wat geraak word deur seisoenale griep (bv. Cruiseschepen) uitbreek van die seisoen. Reisigers wat lande besoek in die teenoorgestelde halfrond tydens die griepseisoen, het hoë risiko, veral as hulle nie ‘n mate van immuniteit het deur onlangse infeksie of gereelde inenting nie. Bejaardes, mense met voorafgaande chroniese siektes en jong kinders is die meeste vatbaar vir komplikasies.

VOORSORGMAATREëLS
Wanneer moontlik, vermy stampvol afgesloten ruimtes en kontak met mense wat aan akute respiratoriese infeksies ly. Gereelde handewas, veral na direkte kontak met siekes of hul omgewing, kan die risiko van siekteverspreiding verminder. Siek persone moet aangemoedig word om ‘n hoesetiket te beoefen (handhaaf afstand, bedek hoes en nies met weggooibare weefsel of klere, was hande).

“All God’s Creation is Very Good!”

As in the beginning, God created from chaos. But everything that was created found its place in creation. All were related to each other – the earth with the light, the waters with the sky, the tree seeds with the living creatures, and the humankind with God. None could exist without the other, and the source of all was God.

There was goodness in that integrated system of relationships. But essential to that was the commitment to care. And we know that we are failing!

Women from Suriname lift up their voices to remind us that we are caretakers of God’s creation! They are bringing to our attention the urgent need for caring at a time when more than 180 countries have signed the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. A commitment to keep the earth cooler depends on public policies implemented by governments, but also on our personal lifestyle.

As one of our Guiding Principles affirms “prayer is rooted in listening to God and to one another.” Through the worship service, we listen to the multicultural and multi-ethnic people of Suriname. They take us to their communities and through their concerns. History is before our eyes! The flora and fauna are remarkable! The everyday life is weaved into the prayers.

How good is God’s creation? That is the question to meditate and respond to with a personal commitment to care for creation. But it can also be an opportunity for the WDP motto “Informed prayer and prayerful action” to be affirmed in the community. What is it that we, as the WDP movement, can do to keep God’s creation good?

Die Vreemdeling

Is jy ‘n Christen?

Weet jy wat die Bybel ons leer oor die vreemdeling?

God leer Sy mense om nooit vreemdelinge te mishandel of te onderdruk nie, maar om hulle lief te hê (Deuteronomium 10:19).

Jy mag ook die vreemdeling nie kwel of hom verdruk nie, want julle was vreemdelinge in Egipte (Eksodus 22:21).

Hy maak dit ook baie duidelik dat ons ook vreemdelinge kon gewees het wat dit ook sou verkies het om goed behandel te word, of vreemdelinge is wat goed behandel wil word.

Dit is dus baie hartseer om te sien hoe ons Suid-Afrikaanse broers en susters die vreemdelinge haat, dis-respek en ook woede en frustrasie teenoor hulle ontwikkel het. Ek wou nie Jesus wat gesê het dat ons selfs ons vyande moet liefhê hier aanhaa nie, omdat hierdie vreemdelinge nie veronderstel is om as ons vyande gesien te word nie. Suid-Afrika het die grootste geleentheid ooit om gedurende hierdie tyd die lig te wees soos voorspel deur baie.

God het ‘n hart vir die vreemdeling (Deuteronomium 10:18) en Sy opdrag vir Sy mense is om hulle lief te hê, te ondersteun en vir hulle te sorg (Levitikus 19:10; 23:22). Hy het dit duidelik gemaak dat die vreemdelinge en die mense van ons eie nasionaliteit op dieselfde manier behandel moet word en dieselfde verwagtinge kan hê van die mense wat hulle hul lewens mee deel (Levitikus 24:22; Númeri 9:14; 15:15).

Dit is eintlik ons plig om te sorg vir die vreemdeling en om seker te maak dat hulle nie ly terwyl hulle tussen ons woon nie (Levitikus 25:6; Deuteronomium 24:21). As Suid-Afrikaners moet ons bely omdat ons hierdie mense so hard, negatief en openlik onbeskof behandel het. Hulle is hier om by ons te leer en die seëninge van God te geniet, terwyl ons hulle leer van die God van liefde.

Want Ek was honger, en julle het My iets gegee om te eet; Ek was dors, en julle het My iets gegee om te drink; Ek was ‘n vreemdeling, en julle het My gehuisves; (Matthéüs 25:35).

Ek bid dat ons van hierdie geleentheid gebruik sal maak en dit sal aangryp sodat ons die God van liefde met elkeen van hulle sal deel!

Gebed:
God van genade en barmhartigheid ons het berou omdat ons toegelaat het dat die leuens van die wêreld ons verblind het in so ‘n mate dat ons die vreemdeling met haat en minagting behandel het. Vergewe hierdie dwaasheid van ons en help ons om te herstel wat ons vernietig het. In Jesus Naam, Amen!

The Foreigner

Are you a Christian?

Do you know what the Bible teaches regarding the foreigner?

God taught His people to never mistreat or oppress foreigners, but to love them  (Deuteronomy 10:19).

You shall neither mistreat a foreigner nor oppress him, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt (Exodus 22:21).

He also makes it clear that we might have been, or are, foreigners who also would have wanted, or wants, to be treated well.

It is therefore very sad to see how our South African brothers and sisters have developed hate, disrespect, anger and frustration towards the foreigners. Jesus said that we should love even our enemies, but these foreigners are not even  supposed to be viewed as our enemies at all. South Africa has the greatest opportunity during these times to be the light, as prophesied by many.

God has a heart for the foreigner (Deuteronomy 10:18) and instructed His people to love, support and care for them (Leviticus 19:10; 23:22). He made it clear that the foreigners and the people of your own nationality should be treated in the same way and have the same expectations from those they are sharing their lives with (Leviticus 24:22; Numbers 9:14;15:15).

It is actually our duty to care for the foreigner and to make sure they do not suffer while they are living amongst us (Leviticus 25:6; Deuteronomy 24:21). As South Africans we need to repent from being harsh, negative and outright rude to these people. They are here to learn from us and to enjoy the blessings of God, while we teach them about the God of Love.

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me (Matthew 25:35).

I pray that we will grab this opportunity and share the God of Love with each and every one of them!

Prayer:
God of mercy and grace we repent from being blinded by the lies of the world which caused us to treat the foreigner with hate and disrespect. Forgive our foolishness and help us to restore what we have destroyed. In Jesus Name, Amen!

INVITATION TO COME

Destruction and hatred follows:
Heartbreak. Fear. Regret. Failure. Disappointment. Insecurity. Shame. Despair.

With these overwhelming emotions boiling inside of us, we cannot receive God’s love nor love the people around us.

Therefor God invites us:

come, my people, enter your quiet places of prayer, And shut your doors behind you; Hide yourself, as it were, for a little moment, Until the resentment caused by all these bad emotions is past.

(Isaiah 31:4).

I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,” declares the LORD, “because you are called an outcast, for whom no one cares.

(Jeremiah 30:17).

I pray that we all remember to enter into our prayer places just for a moment to receive what we need in order to continue living a life of love no matter where we are! AMEN

We Give Glory to God this CHRISTMAS!!!

Christmas is about the celebration of LIFE! We as Christians are celebrating the life we have in Christ Jesus and remembering the Gift of God, He gave His Son so that we may LIVE!

Tim Bettger said “I found my heart deeply pierced”, after reading this passage:

For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened (Romans 1:21 ESV).

When we reject and ignore God (not honouring him as God) we walk down this same path of futility, foolishness and darkness…
Have we become incapable of producing any useful result?

Holy Father we thank You for Your gift of everlasting life.
We have found everlasting life in Your Son Jesus Christ!
Forgive us for pushing You aside.
Forgive us for not inviting or allowing You to be part of our daily lives.
Come Holy God, have your way in us,
Come Holy Spirit, teach us to be sensitive to our God’s voice.
Thank You Lord Jesus for Your life and sacrifice.
