Ek het baie gestoei met sukses. Wat is sukses?

Teen 25 jaar ouderdom moet jy getroud wees, ‘n motor en ‘n huis besit en ‘n volwaardige inkomste verdien.

Hierdie was die prentjie wat aan ons oorgedra was vanaf ‘n jong ouderdom. En die wat mooitjies hier in gepas het is daarvoor gerys en uitgewys as suksesvolle mense.

Maar, wat dan van die wat dít nie gemaak het nie? Was hulle dan onsuksesvol?

Stellig nie, want sukses is ‘n prentjie en elkeen moet sy of haar eie prentjie skilder. Jy kan nie iemand anders se prentjie vat en joune maak nie. Die vraag is dus “Wat is jou prentjie van sukses?”

Sommiges probeer om ‘n held, ouer of lewensmaat se prentjie uit te leef en voel dan lewensmoeg omdat dit nie vir hul werk nie. Ander het alles oor boord gegooi en lewe net om te oorleef of om daardie geldjie te maak vir die volgende stap.

Die gevolg hiervan is dat vrede en tevrede in die agtergrond begin verdwyn het en mens nie meer weet hoe om daar uit te kom nie. Verhoudings begin skade ly en niks voel goed genoeg nie, daar word altyd gestreef vir meer. Maar, meer van wat?

Ek vra weer, wat is jou prentjie van sukses?

Om suksesvol te wees, moet jy weet wat jy doen, lief wees vir wat jy doen en glo in wat jy doen (Will Rogers (1879-1935)).

Kan jy werklik sê wat sukses vir jou is? Dink jy jy is suksesvol?

GET CONNECTED, STAY CONNECTED

Failure is the cause of being detached or disconnected. If a given opportunity is not taken, destruction becomes inevitable because further detachment leads to death… Get connected!

To be connected is to always have access to the needed source which means that whatever you need is always available through this connection which is supplied by the source. We sometimes wonder why a specific person is so successful and when asking around it is said that “He is connected”. A person who is connected have access to things others do not.

The question then is: What is the source you need to be connected to and what do you need to get connected?

Read John 15:1-11.

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he [is the one that] bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing (John 15:4-5 ESV).

The Father cares for everyone connected to Jesus (John 15:1-3)

• Jesus is the actual vine, the true source of God’s riches and blessing. God the Father is the Proprietor and Caretaker of the vine. Jesus makes it clear here that He is depended on the Father and that they always work together (John 15:1). We also read about God the Father and Jesus the Word working together in John 1:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made (John 1:1-3 ESV).

• God is the Caretaker which takes away the branch that bears no fruit by lifting them from the ground. This gives the branch an opportunity to bear fruit. Those branches who already bears fruit is pruned to bear even more fruit. God the Father’s goal is to care for the vine and the branches in such a way that it will produce more fruit (John 15:2).
• At first glance the next verse seems to be out of place not fitting into the story Jesus is telling. Jesus is saying to the disciples that they are already clean because of the words He had spoke to them (John 15:3). Paul also speaks about Jesus Christ cleansing the church by the washing of the word (Ephesians 5:26). Isaiah (1:16) talks about being washed as to cease from doing evil. Malachi (3:1-2) likened the Messiah to a refiner’s fire and the launderers’ soap. In Leviticus (12-14) we also read that sacrificial offerings were made to be cleansed from sickness and sins. Jesus therefore came to cleanse mankind from sin and sickness as our sacrificial offering. This means that those who were changed by Jesus, the Word of God, needs less or even no pruning.
• Let me explain God’s caring with an example. You just received your new car you waited for almost five months after ordering it. You are overly excited and makes a daily effort in caring for it. In the mornings before work you start-up the engine and wait for it to warm up before driving it. You park it in such away that other drivers will not be able to scratch your car with their car-doors. You open and close the doors for the passengers also as to ensure the doors are not scratched or slammed. You regularly make sure the tyre pressure is correct and there is enough oil and petrol in the car. You wash the car at least once a week and only use a specific scratch free cloth and car shampoo. The beauty of this new washed car before your eyes is always worth the effort because of the satisfaction you get out of the car.
• God is also excited about us, His children, and wants to take care of us (Matthew 10:31). He is always with us (Acts 18:10) and provides for us each and everyday (Isaiah 41:10). We can trust God as our Caretaker and Provider because He speaks into our lives, changes and moulds us daily (Psalm 32:8). He also removes us from circumstances and relationships that we should not experience, to protect us and He gives us the strength needed for circumstances that we have to experience (Isaiah 41:10).
• We should therefore stop fearing and trust God to guide us. When trials and tribulations come and we are challenged by many obstacles, we may trust the Lord. He will always guide us making sure that we reach the other side.
• For us to always be able to receive this care from God we need to be connected and stay connected to Him.

Staying connected and receive what ever you desire (John 15:4-8)

• The Greek word “μένω” pronounced “menō” is a verb that means to remain in a given place, state, relation or expectancy (Strong 2008:§G3306). Abide in this context is to stay in a specific relation to Jesus. Thus stay connected!
• We need to be connected to Him as a branch is connected to the vine which give the branch the ability to bear fruit. If the branch is broken off the connection is severed and the branch dries out and dies. This branch is good for nothing else except to make a fire with (John 15:4-6).
• Those branches connected to the vine are the people who are connected to Jesus and listens to the words He speaks. These people are able to receive what ever they desire because they are connected. They can therefore bear much fruit and by so doing give glory to God (John 15:7-8, 1 John 5:14).
• If for example you want to browse the internet you need an internet connection. There are some cheap ways to connect like from a coffee shop’s wi-fi, but it is too slow and your are limited to what you may download. Although you have the biggest and fastest computer, without a proper connection you can do nothing. When you finally decide to install an unlimited ADSL connection at home the whole internet becomes freely available.
• When we are connected to Jesus all the divine riches of God is available for us, which enables us to bear more fruit.

Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust (2 Peter 1:2-4 NKJV).

• With these fruit we are enabled to love and care for other people. It is difficult at times and we may fail to share love, joy and peace with some people, but this is why we trust in Father God. He is faithful and will keep working in us that we may bear more fruit. The important thing is to learn how to stay connected to Jesus.

Stay connected by living a life of love (John 15:9-11)

• Jesus commands us to abide in His love in the same way He abides in God the Father’s love. He does this by doing what the Father had commanded Him. We also abide in Jesus’ love by doing what He had commanded us (John 15:10). Jesus commanded us to love God with our whole beings and our neighbours as ourselves (John 13:34). God the Father loves Jesus and in the same way Jesus loves us and therefore we also need to love (John 15:9-10).

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:34-35 NKJV).

He who does not love does not know God, for God is love (1 John 4:8 NKJV).

• One of the (if not the biggest) reasons we do not abide in Jesus’ love is because we battle to believe that God can love us. Yes we are able to find many reasons why a Holy God cannot love a sinful person. The fact is: “God is Love” and whatever He does is motivated by love (1 John 4:8) (Terblanche 2014). We can therefore be certain of His love for each one of us. Take that step and get connected to Him and allow yourself to receive and experience His love for you.
• When we allow the words of Jesus to saturate us (Job 22:21-27) His joy remains in us and we become overflowed with joy (John 15:9-10). We are then recognised as Jesus’ disciples when we abide in Him and allow others to experience our love for them (John 13:35).

Jesus makes it clear to us that it is important to stay connected by displaying the results of being connected and the consequences of not being connected. Remember this one thing “STAY CONNECTED” to the source of life! Jesus is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6) and I challenge each and everyone to get connected to Jesus and stay connected to Him! We do this by receiving and experiencing Jesus’ love for us, therefore living a life of love. Love God with your whole being and those around you as yourself and your joy will be full!!! Remember: “stay connected through love”!

Remember!!!

You know what, I need help to remember! Maybe you need to be reminded also.

I tend to forget that we are invited into God’s rest daily. He wants us to come to Him, find rest in Him and be secure in Him. I need to be reminded of that like David wrote in Psalm 27:

One thing I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple. For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will set me high on a rock.
(Psalms 27:4-5)

The invitation goes like this:

Today, if you hear His voice, enter into His rest.

The only thing that disqualify you from entering into His rest is disobedience and unbelief. This means that we must trust and believe that God invited us, and then enter in. We cannot enter into His rest as long as any of these negative sinful things rule our lives. BUT God invites us to come to Him. When we are willing to let go of these lies and trust completely in His unfailing love for us, we enter into His rest…

Jesus said:

If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will also be. And if anyone serves Me, the Father will honour him.
(John 12:26)

All to often we come to the Lord with a wish-list or a list of requirements. We “claim in Jesus name” and “demand his promises” over us. When will we realize that God’s will is done in our lives when we move into his presence? When will we realize that God wants us to be in Him so that He can have His way, His will be done in us?

The best place to be is with Jesus Christ. We need to be conscious of His Presence every minute of every day. Let us make an effort to start each day with Jesus and ask Him to help us to follow Him this day…!

Wysheid wat God gee

Ons het verseker wysheid nodig elke dag!

Hoekom vra ons dan nie vir dit nie?
Jakobus leer ons dan om vir wysheid te vra as ons dit nodig het en:

… die Wysheid wat God gee, is rein. Daardie Wysheid maak vrede tussen mense, dit is vriendelik en luister na die dinge wat ander mense vra, Wysheid is goed vir mense, dit is soos ‘n boom wat goeie vrugte dra, Wysheid dink nie dat een mens belangriker is as ‘n ander nie, en dit is nie skynheilig nie. Mense wat reg doen, maak vrede tussen mense, en hulle lewe self ook in vrede.
(Jakobus 3:17-18).

We sometimes need to remember that we are only dust…

For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.
(Psalms 103:14).

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
(2 Corinthians 3:17-18).

What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up.
(1 Corinthians 14:26).

I realised that we do not embrace our humanity. We want to be strong and powerful, but even David said that God remembers that we are only dust. You have to embrace your own humanity and then others… It is that we are frail and limited, not able to carry, performer and give what life demands from us daily. You may be offended and believe that you are able to do all of this, but are you?

Because Jesus experienced temptation when he suffered, he is able to help others when they are tempted.
(Hebrews 2:18).

And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.
(Mark 1:35).

But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
(Matthew 6:6).

We have a God that knows and understands who we truly are. We want to be strong and live this daily living as overcomers, but we will fail if we forget our humanity.

All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation;
(2 Corinthians 5:18).

The Letter to the Philippians gives us a glimpse of the frailty of humanity, the embrace thereof and the knowing that we are utterly depended on a God that knows and understands this even more than we do.

Are you willing to acknowledge your humanity in total dependence on God?
Will you become a vessel filled and overflowing with all of this becoming a carrier thereof? Mankind needs to know the truth – we are not as strong and invincible as we might think we are…

When I worried about many things, your assuring words soothed my soul.
(Psalms 94:19).

A song for going up to worship. O LORD, out of the depths I call to you. O Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be open to my pleas for mercy. O LORD, who would be able to stand if you kept a record of sins? But with you there is forgiveness so that you can be feared. I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and with hope I wait for his word. My soul waits for the LORD more than those who watch for the morning, more than those who watch for the morning. O Israel, put your hope in the LORD, because with the LORD there is mercy and with him there is unlimited forgiveness. He will rescue Israel from all its sins.
(Psalms 130:1-8).

We need to come to the full knowledge and understanding of our humanity – that we are nothing with out God. The fact that we even have a breath is a gift from God for He breathed into the nostrils of man the breath of life and man became a living soul.

Knowing that I am nothing and Jesus is my all in all – my source of life.

It is all about
RELATIONSHIP

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
(John 1:1).

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
(Colossians 3:16).

Know the word of God, memorize verses and make it your own.

Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
(James 1:21).

But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.
(2 Timothy 3:14-17).

Have I not written for you long ago excellent sayings of counsel and knowledge, to make you know for certain what is right and true, that you may give a true answer to those who sent you?
(Proverbs 22:20-21).

Are we going to take hold of this life we have received, no matter what? The lives we live are tough and we face confrontations and challenges daily. Each and everyone that met with God will still have these confrontations and challenges, but it will seem different, because we look at it through different eyes. This new life is first a dying and secondly a resurrection. We succeed only when we die to live.

Jesus Said:

…If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.
(Luke 9:23)

Taking up your cross is the process of dying; it is your walk towards death. Jesus’ words was that we have to die daily, not just carry a heavy load…

Our success lies in the way we die…

No matter what the circumstances are we must die daily to everything else and live for Him, our Lord God and King, our Life-giver. For true life is only found in Him. When we die to everything else the salvation we found in Him becomes our resurrection…

John the Baptist said:

He must increase, but I must decrease.
(John 3:30)

and Paul said:

…that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable to His death; if by any means I might attain to the resurrection of the dead.
(Philippians 3:10-11)

We have to begin each day with God, dying if need be. We have some good traditions and habits, but we also have bad traditions and habits. These bad things must be killed daily in order for us to follow Him. Killing these bad habits is hard and at times it feels like we are dying with it, but do not fear for HE is our resurrection!!!

I don’t know about you, but I don’t die easy. Dying is painful and tough. I cling to stuff that I should actually let go of, which only increase the intensity of the whole dying process. Dying to self does not come easy, but it is possible and together we can do it. It is important to know that you cannot do it alone, you need God first and also the support of family or friends that are willing to walk to death with you that you may “attain to the resurrection of the dead”

The Time Is Now!!!

Its our time now, to step into what the Lord has called us for. No longer are we babes needing to be fed and led by others, but the responsibility has become ours – to live out what the Lord Jesus has called us for. We are to be the pioneers and writers of our own stories. There’s so much in us that needs to come out. The time is now, the favour of the Lord is upon us to walk in His anointing and to perform the works that he has prepared for us before the foundation of the world. For such a time as this He has brought our lives together so that the fullness of His presence can be established in and through us. He has prepared us separately and invested different giftings, fruits and skills in each one of us. These individual attributes are not to function on its own as separate entities, but to come together as a symphony of the beautiful music that only the King of Glory can compose. He will lead, guide, instruct, teach, aid, comfort and bless His works in and through us. He is the composer, the conductor, the musician and the ultimate audience of this beautiful symphony of sounds that He is about to release in our time through us.

Let us cut ourselves loose from what holds us back and seize the moment!
His time is now!

His time – to reach the lost through us. We are responsible for what He tells us, when we hear Him we need to respond to His call. What an honour to be called by the King of Kings, to be chosen by Him to be carriers of His glory to a dark and dying world. Lord help us not to miss this chance you are giving us, help us to not neglect such great Salvation and its essential message – That you are Love !!

For indeed because of the time, you ought to be teachers, you have need that one teach you again what are the first principles of the oracles of God. And you have become in need of milk, and not of solid food.
(Hebrews 5:12).

…Thrust in Your sickle and reap, for the time has come for You to reap, for the harvest of the earth was dried.
(Revelation 14:15).

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them.
(Ephesians 2:10).

10 Ways to Bless our Children

• Love them anyway.  Yes I know you love them.  Most of us parents adore our children — most of the time.  Yet, some parents have a way of regularly communicating to their children that they do not measure up.  I’m thinking now about the young girl who grew up in a family where she was seen as the dunce.  Now as a young woman, she continues to experience the same from her family.   Children need parents who will believe in them and no matter what will love them anyway.
• Prepare them for the battleground, not the playground.  Some parents constantly buy their children toys, gadgets, candy, McDonalds, etc.  The kids then get into their high school years and the pampering continues.  Only now, the toys are much more expensive.  What does that communicate to these children?
  Meanwhile, other parents prepare their children for life on the battleground where a spiritual battle is taking place. These parents realize that children need more than toys. They need to be equipped for life so that they will survive the difficulties and trials they will face.
• Deal with your issues.  There are no perfect human beings.  Yet, if you don’t deal with your own issues (your sins, your insecurities, your feelings of inadequacy, etc.), these can impact your children.  They may end up having to deal with some of the very issues you would never grapple with.
• Take every opportunity to remind them of who they are in Christ.  They will, most likely, receive many false messages about their identity.  They will be told that their worth is based upon their academic record, their physical attractiveness, their charm, their ability to make money, etc.  You bless your children when you help them grow up with a sense of their real identity.
• Bless your children by giving them you.  There is no substitute for your presence in their lives.  Your regular, consistent, emotional and physical presence means so much.  I have known a few parents who seem to see their child as one more activity on the list of things to be done for the day.  Yet one senses there is no real connection between parent and child.  Being attentive and giving one-on-one time are priceless gifts to children.
• Say only what communicates value, respect, and love.  Choose to never say or do anything that will humiliate.   Sometimes, families will tell embarrassing, humiliating, stories about their children.  The child is embarrassed at this but then the parent says, “I’m just kidding.”  (In other words, “Since I think this is funny, you shouldn’t let this bother you.”)  Listen, we all do things in our families that are silly, stupid, mindless, careless, etc.  I have found that it is much better for me to tell about something silly or stupid that I did — not my children.  Children need to know that homes are safe places where one’s mistakes are not announced to the world.
• Be your child’s greatest encourager.  Before you move on, think about this one.  Far too many parents are really not that encouraging.  It’s not that they have a critical spirit.  Rather, they just say nothing.  Children are not mind readers.  We can do better than just expecting them to know we are in their corner.  They need to hear it!  Make an effort to catch them doing something good, right, thoughtful, considerate, well done, etc. and point it out.  Highlight it!  “Hey, you really handled that situation very well.”
• Pray for your children.  If you are not praying for them each day, who is?  Regardless of the age, they need you to lift them up before the Lord in prayer each day.  Think about their day.  Think about their setting.  Think about the people they will be with. Pray about these situations.
• Give them what they need not what they want.   Many of us are very busy people.  We have a lot going on.  So often, parents will feel guilty about how busy they are and so decide to give them a new “toy.”  Yet, we do our children no favors when we give them most everything they want.  The point is this: Too many children grow up getting all the things they want while little attention is given to what they really need.  Think about what your children really need if they are going to make it in this difficult world as obedient children of a loving God.
• Give your children something to look forward to when they come home.  Give them a beautiful home to look forward to.  That’s home — not house.  Anyone with enough money can build a beautiful house.  Our children need beautiful homes.  Homes that are filled with warmth, laughter, and love.  Beautiful homes are places where children can catch a glimpse of the loving God in the love of their parents.  These homes remind kids that no matter how bad the day is at school or with friends, they can always come home.

Enjoying the Lord

I sometimes need to be reminded of the good things in life. This Psalm amplifies joy in the Lord and the life that He willingly shares with each one of His people…

Remember we are His Children!!!

It is good to give thanks to you, O LORD,
to make music to praise your name, O Most High.
It is good to announce your mercy in the morning
and your faithfulness in the evening
on a ten-stringed instrument
and a harp and with a melody on a lyre.

You made me find joy in what you have done, O LORD.
I will sing joyfully about the works of your hands.
How spectacular are your works, O LORD!
How very deep are your thoughts!

A stupid person cannot know
and a fool cannot understand
that wicked people sprout like grass
and all troublemakers blossom like flowers,
only to be destroyed forever.
But you, O LORD,
are highly honoured forever.

Now look at your enemies, O LORD.
Now look at your enemies.
They disappear,
and all troublemakers are scattered.
But you make me as strong as a wild bull,
and soothing lotion is poured on me.

Vreugde!!

Ek het vandag gesit en wonder oor “vreugde”. Wat is vreugde?

Het jy al ooit gesien wat die krag is van vreugde? Het jy al gedink oor die inpak van vreugde in jou lewe?

Daar is ‘n energie, ‘n krag in vreugde wat jou oplig, ‘n lewensblyheid wat jou motiveer en jou inspireer in so ‘n mate dat dit jou amper aandryf. Jy voel lig en opgewonde, gereed om enige iets aan te pak. Daaglikse take word vinnige en maklik sonder moeite af gehandel. Jy het ‘n lus vir die lewe en alles om jou is wonderlik. Jy is meer oplettend en sien meer dinge om jou; Die blou lug is helderder, die plante groener, die mense vriendeliker en die lewe lekkerder…

Ja, vreugde is so kragtig en so wonderlik, jy kan dit tog nie weggee en niks oor hê nie, in teendeel ek dink as ‘n mens vreugde uitdeel dan word dit net meer en meer.

Maar hoekom verloor mens dit so maklik?
Hoekom is daar tye wat jy toelaat dat dinge, situasies en gebeure jou vreugde steel?
Hoekom is dit dan so moeilik om dit weer terug te kry?

Want die HERE vertroos Sion; Hy vertroos al sy puinhope en maak sy woestyn soos Eden en sy wildernis soos die tuin van die HERE; vreugde en blydskap sal daarin gevind word, danksegging en die klank van liedere.
(Jesaja 51:3.)

Jy moet eerstens leer om jou vertroosting in die Here te vind, daar vind jy dan vreugde wat soos vrugte hang aan die bome in Sy tuin.

 In elke vrug is daar saad, ook in die vrug van vreugde. Jy kan die vreugde geniet, maar moet dan ook die saad daarvan in jou eie tuin gaan plant, die tuin van jou hart.

En die ootmoediges sal vreugde op vreugde smaak in die HERE, en die behoeftiges onder die mense sal juig in die Heilige van Israel.
